No Odds Too Great

Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God.”- Luke 18:27

Something happened twice within a matter of hours that is beyond explanation and belief had I not seen it with my own eyes. The phenomena I want to share with you serves as a needed reminder that the “impossible” is nothing more than a word and a present position that can be radically altered by the transcendent authority and power of our God!

While on our family vacation last week Mia and I enjoyed a couple of games of miniature golf and bowling. Since our daughter is just six years old, we kept these activities simple and fun: No keeping score, hold the club anyway that feels comfortable, hit the ball as many times until it goes in the hole, use the bumpers on the lane, and no need to put your fingers in the bowling ball holes…you get the picture. As we were on the second to last hole for miniature golf, Mia hit a shot that had me shaking my head, a couple of teenage boys on the course jubilantly cheering, and Mia jumping up and down. She hit the most amazing shot which traveled over a large bump, ricocheted off a side wall, and then gently rolled in for a hole-in-one! I was up next, tried the same thing and came nowhere close to the hole. I bet if we had taken 100 more shots we would have not come up with the same result. About an hour later we were bowling and again Mia scored an “impossible” spare. She had four pins standing, two on each side with a big opening in the middle. For those who bowl, this is generally a time to concede that frame or score what we like to call a “field goal”. Well, Mia rolled her ball down the lane and “BOOM”, she hit the two pins on the left, which proceeded to roll across the lane knocking the other two down for a spare! These two awesome moments left me with a glorious thought, one that has nothing to do with signing my daughter up for the 2028 Olympics (she probably does not even remember her great feat that day).

As I have thought more about these two small victories our daughter experienced, I have been stirred in my spirit to believe afresh and anew in the SPECIAL VICTORY and the SURPASSING POWER the Lord wants to release in the arena of our lives. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the church in Ephesus prays that something would be released (or better put unleashed) to unlock a truth, a blessing, and a hope that cannot be contained!

Ephesians 1:18-20- “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. The power is the same as the mighty strength, He exerted when raised Christ from the dead…

Ephesians 3:20- “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”

As we begin 2018, in what our church has themed a “Year of Upright Faith”, may our faith be greater than what is seen with our physical sight and may our hope be greater than what is evidenced by our present circumstance. Let me be so bold to speak into your situation my friend:

There is no obstacle in your life that God cannot overcome; there is no lack in your life that God cannot provide an answer; there is no disease that God cannot heal; there is no enemy that God cannot defeat; there is no hurt that God cannot comfort; and there is no loss that God cannot restore.”

  • Have you been waiting a long-time for a job, for a child, a loved one to receive Jesus?

God still OPENS DOORS!

  • Have you been struggling with fear, doubt, anxiety, and guilt? God still BREAKS CHAINS!

  • Have you been battling with physical sickness and pain?

God still HEALS!

  • Have you been falling and failing to areas of temptation and sin?

God still FORGIVES!

  • Have you been lacking faith to believe in the “impossible”?

God still MOVES MOUNTAINS!

Hole-in-ones, picking up a spare, and all of life’s insurmountable odds are nothing to the One whose perfect touch delivers victory upon victory which always triumphantly transcends our current challenge. Let’s move in the personal, present, and powerful faith that Jesus offered to us as stated in John 15:5, 7, “I am the Vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing…If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
