Fountain Energy
"For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light."-Psalm 36:9
Life sucks! Okay, that may sound like I got up on the wrong side of bed or that I am being super negative and harsh, but before passing judgment, please let me explain. There are definitely events, news, tasks, and even people that can take the wind out of our sails or burst our bubble. At one time or another we have all experienced the feeling of emptiness that comes when:
Our kids come home from school with a bad report card or disappointment for not making the team.
Our regular TV or radio program is interrupted with news of another school shooting.
The pressures from the job and the negativity from the boss leaves you so drained that you fall onto the bed without getting changed out of your clothes.
Your sibling calls with an hour diatribe on the latest family gossip and drama.
It is these kind of moments where we can feel the life, joy, and strength being sucked from our very being. I call this phenomenon (or plague) "Vacuum Energy". It is the type of energy that devours everything in its path. And although that type of energy is needed and appreciated with the household appliance that sucks up crumbs, spills, and dust, it is an entirely different story when it is a fire ravaging a hillside or a black hole consuming a solar system. Again, whether it is an enemy we face, a need we have, or a loved one we are helping, we can feel totally overwhelmed and emptied. Listen to the words of King David in Psalm 38:8-10, "I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. All my longings lie open before You, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from You. My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes." Talk about a "Vacuum Energy" victim!
Even as despairing as this prayer of David's was, there is still hope and there is still an energy that is greater! Vacuum energy may try to SUCK the life out of you, but there is a FOUNTAIN energy from the Lord that SHOWERS His life and love over you! The Lord wants us to seek and stand under the extension of His loving arms that showers us in abundant blessings. The Fountain FLOW of His love, care, and promises will restore us, revive us, and radically empower us. In Ephesians 1:18-20 Paul prays that we would experience Christ in such a way that we are filled and transformed from head to toe and from the inside out, "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms."
May this be a season you are covered, showered, nurtured, blessed, and thoroughly equipped by the Spirit who flows a continual fountain of love, promise, and strength. May the news you hear, the disappointments you experience, the struggles of each day, and the people that drain you no longer have any power over your life and faith. Don't get sucked into the destructive force of darkness, get showered by God's love and light!
