One Up
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.”- Psalm 28:7
With all due respect to the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Beyonce, and any other artist, David may be the most prolific songwriter in human history. This shepherd boy, a man after God’s heart, allowed his heart to be stirred to song and poem, to joy and hope, to creative expression and exuberant confession. The above words from Psalm 28:7 seem to echo from deep within him time after time. He was a worshipper fully enveloped by and forever grateful to His Creator.
Every four years we are given an extra day at the end of February. Rather than adding another day to grind at work or to worry about burdens, let’s apply a David like joy and expectancy to our lives. This extra day does not need to be just another ordinary 24 hours, but a joyful time of seeing God move and seeing us grow! Let’s take full advantage of the leap year with a ONE UP APPROACH to loving Jesus, growing in the faith, and receiving God’s miracle multiplying, transforming touch work. In Psalm 118:24 David declares, “The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.”
Today is a great time to choose to LEVEL UP by adding love and joy; faith and hope; perseverance and courage; compassion and charity to your life. This type of increase, addition, and multiplying is greater than beating a level on a video game; earning a new belt color in martial arts; reaching enough purchase reward points; or climbing the ladder in your company. In this Year of the Immeasurable, let’s experience things that lead to exponential growth and extraordinary joy. In 2 Peter 1:5-7 we read, “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”
May February 29th be a reminder of how this ONE day moves us UP to new faith heights in the Lord. Habakkuk 3:19 ends prophetically and triumphantly stating, “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.”
