Light Travels Fast

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”- Matthew 5:16

Quick, think of something that travels fast.  Correct answers could include: An email; good news; a race car; a cheetah; a toddler going after a toy.  Another appropriate answer of something traveling at a tremendous speed is LIGHT.  But there is far more to light than just the pace it moves at and the beauty it displays. 

Light is the very first creative act spoken over our once formless world (Genesis 1:3). Without light, the darkness pervades and life becomes unsustainable.  Light invades the dark and empty spaces because light exudes from God Himself.  1 John 1:5 says, “This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; and in Him there is no darkness at all.” Just as God is the very substance of light and just as He spoke light into the darkness, He spreads His light to each of our lives in an incredible manner.  Psalm 43:3 says, “Send me Your light and Your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You dwell.”

The illuminating nature of God’s light is unlimited in its reach and unlocks life wherever we go. Think about how a lamp needs to be close to an outlet due to the length of its cord.  Even though it can supply light, it remains in a FIXED PLACE with LIMITED RANGE.  The only way to have that light travel farther is with the help of an extension cord and a higher wattage bulb.  Jesus is how we receive an extension and expansion of light. In John 8:12 Jesus stated, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Let the light of Jesus travel with you.  His light can shine when you are doing work, making decisions, needing direction, spending time with people, and sharing His love and truth with others.  Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” Let the light be the radiant resource which guides you, empowers you, and speaks through you!
